Evaluation

Drawing an end to this project and my degree, it has been a joyful and challenging experience. During this project and previous years at university, my skills as a surface pattern designer have significantly developed and expanded into a number of areas. This project has allowed me to become confident in my style but also has opened my mind, pushed me further and has allowed me to become diverse in my work.  Unit X has been a successful project, where my concept shines through into designs allowing it to reach the perfect target market.

My sophisticated Floral collection has the one were my passion for intricacy and detail was able to come through, showing the end user the beauty of nature and florals through drawing. I was able to conduct a series of prints, where my interpretation of florals could be seen, giving my work a contemporary but traditional look. I did face problems in producing a large quantity of drawings due to them being time consuming, however, being organised and planning what actually needed to be produced for unit x allowed me to not waste time and produce design that were needed. The effect of keeping original hand drawn style within the work, made my designs original and using monochromatic style with subtle colours, gave life and an atmosphere to the room. Also being able to showcase this collection within the duvet market has shown the range, which my style of work can go to. This collection contrasted with my indefinite nature collection, due to blasts of colour being used. I felt working with colour within digital design was difficult, however through being to practice within the previous unit, I was able to positively complete this collection to a satisfying level. Precise Florette collection revealed another way I was able to introduce floral into wallpaper, through photographic images. I was very pleased with my end results for this collection. Being able to style and arrange florals was something new to me and I challenge which I enjoyed.

Having the opportunity to be able to work within the area of teaching has also been a successful experience, which I wish to further do after my time at university. This unit has allowed me to fulfil my passion for teaching and designing, and I hope I will be able to further utilise the skills I have been taught within my future career.

PRECISE FLORETTE

INDEFINITE NATURE

SOPHISTICATED FLORALS

Reflecting on my final designs, overall I very happy with the results of my final prints for wallpaper. Having individual concepts has allowed each collection to have its own distinguished style. Each concepts reflects back into its designs, I am satisfied I was able to portray the delicacy and beauty of florals through drawing and digitalised productions.

Experiments and Changes

When designing for my final wallpaper collection, I came across some problems. When putting my designs in large scale, some colours stood out too much allowing too much focus on that area. I had to re edit the colours by making them slightly subtler and so it flowed with the rest of the work.

Once i toned down the colour and placed my design into a visualisation, the design worked successfully and allowed me to be satisfied with my design for sophisticated floral collection.

Portfolio

As this project is about creating a portfolio of work and getting myself out there, for the degree show I plan to set up a portfolio of A1 sheets showcasing a story of my project which will undermine my journey and show my finalised designs and visualisations of how it may look in a certain environment. I have been looking into potential look books, as this will further help visual my designs in a more professional context. Researching potential look books like room blush and high street lookbooks, have given me ideas how to layout and visual my ideas.

I also created an online portfolio, to further myself into the industry so that my designs could be viewed by wider audience. This will help me showcase my designs to a professional level and allow companies to view my work professionally.

TigerPrint

To constantly challenge myself and work in different markets. I entered into the tiger print Mothers day Card competition. Although this area of the market is very different to interior, I felt the brief was similar to my concept through the use of florals. I felt I was able to design and develop cards suited to a commercial level.

Trying to incorporate my digitalized collection within my designs, I used photography and aimed to use vibrant colours to enable card to stand out and fit within the contemporary market.
